This native bienniel wildflower originates from rough grasslands, dunes and roadsides.
A hairy plant with upright spikes, it has lovely vivid blue bell-shaped flowers with red stamens surrounding its stems. It is rated as one of the best wildflowers for pollinators as it produces an abundance of nectar right throughout the day - unlike most other nectar producing plants, it is able to protect its nectar inside its flowers from vaporisation in hot weather or from flushing away when it rains, making it a very reliable source of food.
POLLINATORS: Buff-tailed and Red-tailed bumblebees, Honeybees, Red Mason bees, Large Skpper and Painted Lady butterflies & moths.
