Our plug plants

Our pictures show the size and health of the plants that you can expect to receive. They also illustrate how the size of the top growth can vary depending on the variety of plant and time of year.

An idea of what you can expect to receive ...

Our plug plants are a minimum size of approximately 3.5 cm diameter tapering down to 2cm diameter x 4cm deep. Classed as a standard size plug plant, we only send out our young plants once they have good healthy root systems which are well established.

Through trial and error we have discovered that some of our deeper rooted wildflowers, or those with roots that enjoy sprawling, are actually much better sent out as little bare root plants.  We grow them in large trays and only lift them when we are ready to pack your order, so they will reach you in prime condition, already with great little root systems ready to pot on.

Our plug plants can be planted out straight away, if ground conditions allow and once the risk of frost has passed for tender plants. However, most will benefit from growing on in 7-9 cm pots for 3-4 weeks when, with a little care and attention they will quickly grow sturdier root systems, becoming stronger plants ready to plant in their final position.

We strongly recommend all bare root plants are potted on for a few weeks rather than planting out straight away - will all other conditions applying as above once you have grown them on for a short time.
